“Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at His footstool. He is holy.” Psalm 99:5.

How often do we fail to realize how holy our God is? There are many aspects and characteristics of God, yet we tend to focus more attention on His love and forgiveness than we do on His holiness. God is many things–righteous, just, loving, forgiving–but, above everything else, He is holy.

God is not our buddy, and we should not treat Him as though He is. He is our Lord, our King, and our God. We are to respect Him as such. He is not a brutal taskmaster that we are to be afraid of, but we are to be in awe of His holiness. God’s holiness permeates throughout the entire universe and we are to praise Him because of that. We are to worship Him with reverent hearts, and bow before His throne. Yes, there are times in worship when we are to loudly sing praises to Him, but we must also humbly bow before Him. We are to give Him the respect and honor He deserves.

Far too often we go through life giving God nothing but lip service. We go to church and go through the motions of worship, and we go home and think nothing more of Him until the next time of worship–if one can truly call such a lackluster attempt “worship”. How completely disrespectful and ungrateful this is! The Holy God, maker of the entire universe, chose us to be His people! He chose to send His son to save us from death and sin, and yet we repay Him with the minimum amount of attention we can possibly give? No! We are to seek after Him day and night. We are to let every aspect of our lives reflect our love and devotion to Him. We are to humbly bow before His throne and praise Him for what He has done for us. And we are to lead our lives in such a way that we reflect His holiness to the rest of the world. Just as the moon in the night sky reflects the sun’s light to the world, we are to reflect God’s holiness to the rest of mankind. But before we can do any of these things, we must humble ourselves and bow before God.  We must always remember that He is holy and we must exalt His holy name.

Bow before the Lord our God and praise His holy name.
