Seek First.

“So don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the pagans eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” Matthew 6:31-33.

Every day seems to be more hectic and chaotic than the day before. We are constantly bombarded with worries, wants, concerns, and cares that can weigh us down and causes us a great deal of stress. The truth of the matter is that we actually have very little control over the things that causes us our greatest anxiety, and that fact makes our anxiety even greater. How are we to cope with all these worries and concerns? How do we keep our heads above water when we flailing in a sea of anxiety?

Christ’s advice is simple: focus first, and foremost, on God and let Him take care of everything. God is going to meet all of our needs, but we will never fully appreciate the blessings He gives us if we do not put our faith and trust in Him. God never allows the righteous to suffer, nor will He fail to provide for them. We may not experience an overabundance of worldly wealth, it may only be just enough to pay the bills and put food on the table; however, the spiritual wealth we will enjoy will far overshadow any wealth this world has to offer. It does not mean our cars will always have full tanks, nor does it mean our bank accounts and pantries will always be full. What it does mean is that we will have what we need to make it through that day, and then we must trust God to meet our needs again the next day.

It is not easy to give up our cares and worries. Seeking God’s kingdom first is not easy either. But we have everything to gain by doing it. Though our lives may be more fast-paced than they were in Christ’s day, humanity hasn’t changed; there will always be bills to pay, and there will always be concerns about making ends meet. God hasn’t changed either. He will still provide for us and meet our needs. But we must always seek Him and His kingdom first– in good times and in bad; when we have an abundance and when we may be in need. If we put our faith and trust in God, He will take care of us. Seek Him first, and let Him take care of you.
